Description

Back in January, 2011, Denise MrsRatbag went to the Cougar Mountain Zoo and started a love affair with the creatures who live there. Her fabulous photographs over the past three-and-a-half years have captured my imagination, and I know I'm not the only one! Yesterday we had occasion to go down to Issaquah for a dinner party. Since it's about a 75-mile drive one way, we left a couple of hours early to give ourselves some time to see Denise's zoo. What a marvelous place! I'll be showing you a few pictures I took there in the coming weeks, but wanted to show you what the grounds look like. The zoo sits on the side of a big hill (Cougar Mountain) overlooking Lake Sammamish, and it boasts a world-class collection of wildlife statuary. ............... A few days ago when people weren't getting bots, I posted a picture nobody saw. In the scope of the things you see here all the time it's not a big deal ... it's a bee ... but it was a big deal to me, and I want you all to go see it! I basically suck at pictures of anything that flies, and I happened to catch a bee doing its thing. Please click HERE and give me a little pat on the back for my lucky shot! :D If it were anything else, I wouldn't have mentioned it, but this is only my second bee picture in the 7-1/2 years I've been here. Thanks!

I know exactly where you were standing to get this; isn't it an amazing view from up there? And I hope my buddies were nice to you when you visited. It can take time to get to know them, and while it's a small zoo, they're real characters and can be quite entertaining!

Smashing shot auntie, and I saw your bee, the whisperer never misses his children. I know my honey loves that place, so much so she is an official photographer for the zoo :)

Well history and denise-connection aside, this is a wonderful shot of a hill and water. Love the slope to the water, all the 'accents' along the way (the animal statuary is wonderfully scattered throughout our descent), those---what, tree cones?---are like shrines along the way, and the bursting bush behind the bear-statue looks like it's celebrating our arrival. Really good pov. The rest is the water and the beautiful background with houses crammed along the shore, which is what I picture for this area whenever I think of it. A very pleasing sloping and unfolding shot, Tara. And as for the zoo, I've never seen one that was so pastoral, hilly, or integrated into its environs. I hear the San Diego is integrated beautifully (and massive), but this one is woven into a hillside---I didn't remember that from denise's extensive magnificent animal photos. A very pleasing and sweet shot.
