Description
My wife heard some loud gobbling a little while ago, which is not unusual as wild turkeys are very common around here. But this one was coming from a strange place This turkey somehow had flown up to almost the top of this pine tree - I'd estimate it's about 40 feet up. I've seen turkeys fly onto the low branches of trees, but I've never seen one this high. He's been gobbling off & on for about an hour & I'm wondering whether he's scared to fly down from that height or he's exhibiting some other odd behavior. There's at least one other turkey on the hill by our house that responds to his gobbling in kind every once in a while. Hopefully, he'll find his way down eventually...

I am surprised that a turkey could fly that high.Probably just trying to show off and then got stuck up there.

Very bizarre and interesting photo. You don't expect to see a turkey in a pine tree. The red of the turkey's waddles contrasts nicely with the green pine needles and the blue sky. Great textures too. Very nice indeed!

Strange and wonderful; they do fly, though, and if he got up there surely he can come down. But they aren't exactly reknown for their reasoning abilities, so who knows. When he gets hungry enough or thirsty enough, or feels frightened by some predator, he'll figure it out. I can't imagine calling the Fire Department to come rescue a turkey! Excellent capture!

I hope he can figure out how to get down safely! In the meantime, this is a terrific shot. Wonderful picture!

Great capture! wonderful timing on your part contrary to the domesticate dinner turkey, I understand that the wild ones are actually very intelligent and are capable of flying and giving hunters grief.
