Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

What a lovely variety Andrea.

I always think roses need to be planted in with other things to hide their leggy habit, and this azalea is just the ticket! In my old neighborhood someone had planted a rose under a rhody, and the rose bloomed after the rhododendron was finished ... with all the flowers above those gorgeous evergreen leaves! :)

What a lovely pink but I think I will be all rosed out as we have David Austin roses right over the isle from us at GWL and even I can smell them.

You must have updated your camera since I posted here ages ago (?) and your photos are so very lovely, as are these roses. Hope you had a wonderful day - Happy Birthday, Andrea. :)

A beautiful pair, and the angle---with them looking away from each other, but close together---is just lovely. In zoom, we can see all the little imperfections of the roses; and in smaller view, they're like two hugging beauties. A beautiful delicate rose capture, Andrea. (And I studied roses, as a painter and draw-er, but never learned any of the varieties you show. I had no idea there were so many names! And did you know---boring warning---that "rose" is from the same root as "rishi"---as in a "seer"? Because a rose is filled with nectar, and so is a seer. ((The nectar of wisdom.)) More etymology that will leave you no further ahead than you were before. But I'm 65 and if I don't start unloading this stuff, it may be too late one day...)
