Description
Our cat Banjo, hiding behind lavender & gazing intently at something in the distance which mere humans are incapable of detecting. Often he hides behind the lavender in a crouch & then springs out suddenly for no apparent reason, but here he just seemed mesmerized by something. I've always found cat behavior very mysterious & fascinating to observe...

It reminds me of the old Kliban cartoons, most particularly the one that says "Cats see things people can't". It's very true, as is every behaviour he draws in his cartoons! This is a lovely sight, what a gorgeous kitty with those glowing gold eyes behind the lavender...a beautiful model! Love this portrait!

I'm convinced Kliban was right ... cats DO appear to be able to see things we don't see! Invisible people running along the floorboards? Phase-shifted mice in the garden? Who knows? Whatever Banjo is looking at, this makes for a terrific picture! :)

I like the way his yellow-green eyes tie him to the background colors. And how his black coat blends in with the dark shadows. There is a lovely uniformity of green which really makes the Lavender pop.
