Description

Special Notes: I'm just rounding Ryota out and giving him a personality. These side stories probably won't ever make it to the book. Oh, and a historic side note; during the 15th-18th centuries, boys began their naval careers very young in order to reach Captain by 25 or so years old and command a ship while they were still young and hot blooded. Dear Tage, I'm glad you were able to visit the other day. I wish we would have had more time to visit, but I'll be finished with Basic Training in two weeks and then it's off to four years of the Academy. They said we will get to go home for four days before we have to report to the Academy. I know I'll be gone a lot, but I get my next leave after that during Festival week. Did you know there is a medical prep school next to the Academy and if you were to go there then we could see each other every day almost. We can talk about it when I come home. I just wanted to mention it. Oh yea, some guy from the Office of Inter-Species Relationships came here and gave me a letter that said we have to attend a class together. Do you know what that's all about? And I guess you know now that I had to choose a Carinian name and took 'Sar for my name. I sent a letter to my father explaining and he didn't mention it when he was here. It's been worrying me. Well, I miss you and will be home soon. Love, Ryota'Sar P.S. Is it okay to say love? We're promised, but I wasn't sure. You've signed all your letters love. So I thought it was okay. Never mind, I'm being stupid. Okay, I got to go. No wait, the other boys said I've been gone a long time and you would forget me. That's not true, is it? I just... you know. One of the boys here called me a filthy mammal and, well You don't think that do you?

What a nice love letter! You've struck just the right chord, age-wise, with Ryota. It's the perfect balance between "I know what I'm doing" and "I have no idea what's going on." :)

Long distance relationships are hard for any couple, especially one as young and unusual as this pair. Wonderful illustration and story.
