Description
Now an action picture of the Shokaku. Somewhere in the Pacific Ocean in 1941... Just before the great trouble...
Shokaku and his sister ship Zuikaku were the best designed aircraft carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. They incorporated many innovations. The only drawback was absence of adequate ventilation of the hangars. They were members of all great battles in WWII, but Midway.
The A6M was absolutely unknown by the Allies. The first to encounter these aircrafts were the Flying Tigers in China. They reported the experiences made with this aircraft but they got no credence. The Allies were ignorant to the techniques of the Japanese. Jeffrey R. Cox describes it in his book "Rising Sun, Falling Skies" as part of the western racism in these days...
