Description
We would occasionally pass apparently abandoned houses covered in snow. Holm assured us that they were not abandoned but just waiting for the spring when the owners would return and open them for the summer months.
Much of our travel was off the main roads. Sometimes the route was nothing but an ice covered track. This was one of the better roads.
In Iceland, cairns were often used as markers along the roads and paths that crisscrossed the island; many of these ancient cairns are still standing, although the paths have disappeared.

I'm glad you got to get away from the cities and see more of the country. That's what we do when we travel in the motorhome ... stay out of cities and see what the rest of the world looks like. These are fascinating!
