Description

Mission San Jose San Antonio, TX I know it's easy to assume there's another square tower on the other side of that dome, but it t'ain't necessarily so. If you saw a picture of this old mission church from the front, you would see there's just the one. Someone (Denise, I believe) mentioned the fact that Mission San Jose is not in San Jose, nor is Mission San Juan Capistrano in San Juan Capistrano. It made me think of the scene from Zorro the Gay Blade where all the Dons are introducing themselves: Don Diego from San Fernando. Don Francisco from San Jose. Don Fernando from San Diego. Don Jose from San Bernardino. Luis Obispo from Bakersfield.

Oh I love this...it's rather weird seeing this while listening to the soundtrack to the movie Gravity...I keep expecting Sandra Bullock to go spiraling out of control along the border of this image...but that would be a rather disturbing artistic crossover. Anyway...WOW! What an image! I love the lines and the way this really looks like an ancient place: I mean ancient as in 200 years older than this place actually happens to be. The details are stunning and I love the POV...you really give a great sense of scale here. This is super work! I like it a lot! It is, as one might say, enough good...

A wonderful image, Tara! I love the angles and repeating arches - and what a dazzling blue sky! We must return to San Antonio sometime.... I don't think we discovered this lovely place while we were there. A beautiful photo!

Thankyou for the giggle! That film sounds fun. Being someone for whom symmetry is not necessarily pleasing, I love this, and also knowing about the tower.

OHH! I love this. What a fantastic architecture :-) I find this shot most beautifully captured, Tara. I happen to love church architecture seen from outside... or much of it, that is. In Denmark we have many that look alike. They are lovely, when they stick their tower up over the landscape, but that isnt the most interesting, but when I see a Church, that doesnt look common, I just MUST photograph it. Old or new.

LOL! Yes, they do seem a bit mixed up, don't they? But this is gorgeous, however it was decided to put bits about on the walls. Maybe they ran out of stones, or the architect quit, or died, or changed his mind halfway through? I'm a real sucker for old stones and archways and cupolas and domes etc... Superb capture!

I love these old buildings. They make me wonder about all the people that have passed through; the history, the stories, the adventures. Wonderful stuff.
