Description

Of all the concrete structures, most of them ugly, erected in my town since the 1970's, the Metal Box Company building was the most interestingly shaped - it was a six-sided structure with a central open area and was rather attractive. Therefore, it must be demolished to make way for some bland rectangular edifices. In this shot, some scaffolding is just being put up prior to the demolition. It will be a shame to lose this place - I always knew I was home when I passed by it on the train. The energy company, Energis, were, I think, it's last occupants and they used to have coloured lights shining on it at night. It looked absolutely magnificent lit up like that. ------------------------------------------ Original Photograph 5 Jun 2014

Well that is progress for you, you would think they would find another company to use it, outstanding capture!

Maybe it was too energy inefficient and couldn't be renovated (and brought up to code) for what it cost to tear it down and start from scratch.
