After shaking hands with Jasper buying the contents of the secret attic compartment for $10,000.00, Skylar and Reed follow Jasper downstairs to finalize the deal with the lady in charge of the auction. She smiles when she sees Jasper. He informs her of what he has done. She goes to a desk and brings out a copy of the late widows will and finds the part where she decreed Jasper was to have the attic contents. While she is doing that, Reed calls Jessie in San Diego and asks him to wire the $10,000.00 to them in Baton Rouge. Jessie is a little leary to do it, but Reed explains the situation and Jessie finally agrees. While Skylar stays with Jasper and the lady, Reed finds the nearest Western Union and retrieves the cash. When he returns, they complete the transaction. The auction lady writes up a bill of sale and the deal is done. 'Can we pick up the items tomorrow?' asks Skylar. 'Certainly. Just remember to bring your bill of sale with. You should'nt have any trouble.' They shake hands with Jasper and head out to the chairs where the auction is going on. There are a lot of items moving across the auctioneer's table. The prices don't seem very high, at least according to what the guys remember seeing on the 'Antiques Road Show'. But you can never tell what will happen on any given auction day. They finally get through all the items that they want to sell from the house. 'Now, ladies and gentlemen. Let me direct your attention to the beautiful old Edsel you all must have seen as you came here today. It is the final item up for bids. Lets all go over to it and get a closer looks, shall we?' says the auctioneer. Not everyone is interested in the old car, but there are quite a few guys that move over to it. Skylar and Reed and Jasper are among them. Someone has started up the old beauty and she purrs like a kitten. 'I kept her up all these years.' says Jasper. 'I made sure she was started at least once a month to keep the motor from freezing and rusting. I'd drive her around the yard once too just to keep the bearings and such nice and greased.' Several guys nod their heads in understanding. The bidding is fast and furious. Reed and Skylar really would like to buy it! They keep up with the bidding and shortly, several of the bidders drop out. Then it comes down to Reed and another guy. The drama and tension mounts as they reach the $15,000.00 mark. Reed nods his head to that and the other guy drops out.
