Description

A hummingbird is supposed to have 10 tail feathers as you can see by the small inset. But this Ruby-Throated Male Male Hummingbird, whom I have dubbed Mr. Two Feathers, only has 2 - one directly over the other one. I have some other shots that show the tail a bit better, but I liked the light in this one. He doesn't seem to be hampered at all by his "rudderless" condition and flies quite well. Thanks very much for your views and comments.

I have a little experience with these. TO get one like this with light and with wings like this.... not easy and BRILLIANT results!

Wish we had these in the UK :( Would love the challenge of capturing them. Your image is fabulous Tex, I like the idea of the insert too showing a separate form, and gives us good graphic information, along with you super bif of this little hummer. Excellent results my dear friend.

Amazing capture. Poor guy must have had some traumatic experience but fortunately lost only tail feathers.

Not only is this a fantastique action capture of the wee avian showing off its wonderful patterns, but I wish I could even see a hummingbird around here, much less be able to snap one in flight with the gorgeous effects you have in your images. And I like the comparative inset in this posting, Maria.

You are great at these. Do you think a cat swiped him perhaps?
