Description
Many years we sailed the ocean’s,
with vessels like the Golden Hind,
or ships like the Vasco da Gama
who left them sea miles far behind.
We also know of Christoffel Columbus,
who found the West and not the East.
And also Jan Pieterzoon Coen,
who treathed slaves, just like a beast.
With many battles on the water
between the Spanish, English, Dutch,
we know that never was forgotten
those written words: “in God we trust”.
But there was also Nova Zembla
The nortern route along the Pole,
where English Hudson found Canadians
and Willem Barentz smoked his boat.
Oh yes the ocean tells us stories,
from churches that just wanted more.
Financed by “the wealthy kingdoms”
some of these ships never reached the shore.
That is shown by Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter,
they found his ship here near the port.
A mile from home his ship got stranded:
“Vive le Roi, je suis et mort”. (long live the king, I am dead)
