Description
I don't know what the reason is, but I have found Boatman flies the last couple summers in the same spot in my front yard. And most of the time they are hanging out on my green garden hose. These 2 were going at it pretty hot 'n heavy. So much so that they flew off joined in flight and landed together on this leaf.
They are a type of Picture-wing fly and got their name because of the way the males move their wings like oars paddling a boat as part of their mating ritual. I guess the females find this attractive... lol
There has been a steady supply of them out there the last week or so.
