Description

These are some of the best tools I've used in my life as a photographer. The CANON FTBb old, reliable, robust and durable (in fact mine still works perfectly), the old and noisy Gra-Lab, even measuring the seconds quite accurately, half a century after being manufactured. Old Hansa developing tanks and reels, sturdy and safe, and, of course, the photographic film, practically indestructible. This photograph is a tribute to all those workers who took great pride in their work and put their souls into every item they manufactured. Only this way we can have items like these, that fulfilled their duty as old warriors, because they were made with pride and love.

Boy, does this bring back memories...... I had a darkroom in my basement for years - equipped to do B&W, and color (which reminds me - does anyone want an old Beseler 4X5 color enlarger?? LOL I paid 1000 bucks for it years ago, and I can't give the darn thing away these days...:-P). I can't tell you how many hours I spent in the dark with funny smelling chemicals! LOL I'm in the process now of scanning thousands of negatives and slides before they deteriorate. One thing I love about digital... It seems no matter how carefully you store negs and slides, the always seem to be magnets for dust. A lovely shot of these fine, quality old warriors! (I'm still shooting with Canon, BTW!)

Ah yes, such pleasant memories! Sweating into the chemical bath in my windowless bathroom darkroom. Struggling with the film, trying to get it onto the spool while inside a lightproof bag. I still have all my equipment. In fact, the developing tank makes a great shaker for mixed drinks. {;->

Wow! Great capture, Neto! I think my great great grandfather told me about these items! LOL Okay, maybe it was only one "great." ;-) BTW, I like your new profile picture. :) Blessings, ~Robert

Let me add to these nostalgic memories. I had the very same Canon FTb camera, the very same GraLab timer, and tanks, only I had the big one where you could develop 6 rolls at one time. Here's an FYI for you. I bought the Canon FTb, the 50mm Canon lens, the 35mm Canon wide angle, and the Canon 200mm telephoto lens in Hong Kong in the early 70's, I believe, all for $300. Try doing that today!! Thanks for the memories.

A great tribute to these old objects, very robust and so efficient ! It's a page of nostalgia of the reels time, excellent capture with this green tone !

Thank you very much Mike, my new avatar is a photo that was taken by one of my students and I think that is the best portrait someone has made me

A great shot of this old equipment from a time when taking pictures and develop was still true craftsmanship. In the early eighties, a friend of mine and I had a darkroom. I can still remember the smell of developer liquid and the fixer bath.

This is such a great idea, my friend, remembering us of all the fascinating and with love and soul made instruments. It gives me thoughts from the time Karel and I sat in the dark room, and worked together developing Karels photos. I hope things are well with you, Neto, because I was missing your uploads ;-).
