Description

Northrop N9MB experimental flying wing. The 4 that were built were used to test performance and handling in the development of the XB and Yb-35 flying wing bombers. I missed the air show on the previous day, but my wife and myself and a friend went over to the Paso Robles airport the next morning and got to enjoy the pilots prepping their aircraft and watching them take off to go home. There were probably 20 or so people there, so we got to get "up close and personal". I got to talk to the pilot of the N9MB, Ron Hackworth. What a great job he's got! That's what he does, fly this baby out to airshows! I did get some great very up-close shots of many of the planes. Unfortunately, the N9MB was leaving so I only got some shots of her ass-end while leaving and a couple of mediocre shots of a once around lap before disappearing to the south. I haven't been to Chino in years (I live about 4 hours away), but the Estrella Warbird Museum is here in Paso Robles, and they sponsor a number of airshows during the year so we get to see a good number of the aircraft from Chino. Interestingly enough, we are close to Fort Hunter-Liggett where they have training war games, so it's not uncommon at all for C-130's, Ospreys, Blackhawks (etc), and even F-18's (from Lemoore NAS) to stop over for whatever. Anyway, I thought this might be interesting to Rob and others. Cheers! Camera

It is really cool to get up close and personal with the planes as well as the pilots. I thought that all the N9MB's were gone by the way side. Nice to see one still flying.
