Description

Many of these larger species have an interesting defence mechanism.. if threatened they will mimic a scorpion to scare away predators... most kids through the years had the smaller one's maybe in a converted sweets containers. they are quite fascinating with their six legs and being able to whip their body over to look exactly like a kind of scorpion. There are a myriad of different species... some looks just like leaves, they are masters of camouflage. Mega Zoom Version

If you would like to hold him you would need to visit Exmoor Zoo which is a very nice 5 acre Zoo in idealistic settings, it's a good day out and there are plenty of photographic opportunities. He may look menacing but he is completely harmless.. no bite or sting. Check... Exmoor Zoo

That is a BIG bug! Very interesting text about it. This is one of those kinds of insects whose size you can deal with, until they get so big that you're lying in bed one night and suddenly one crawls under the covers and throws its leg over you! Great capture of this amazing Walkingstick!

GOSH it is HUGE :-) If I had the opportunity to hold it like that, I think I would take it, just to show, that not all women are scared of bugs :-) What scares me more is when they invade a wall in my shed and drop tons of dry skeletons and other yucky stuff in the corner of the room. That is what is going on in my studio wall right now. I HATE THAT. I will have to wait til my son comes up here on his next vacation. Then this wall will be moved away and cleaned for bugs left over. Untill that is done, I refuse to work in there. (Shuddering)
