Description

Two weeks ago, I posted a collage image of the Baby Mississippi Kite in the tree across the street from me. As you can see by the small inset, he was just a tiny ball of white fluff then. This is what he looked like yesterday! In just 2 weeks, Junior is now nearly 2/3 the size of his mother and his feathers are coming along very nicely. But he's definitely at "that awkward stage" as his head is still white fluff and looks too small for his body. I have a shot of last year's fledgeling taking his very first flight on August 10, so Junior here only about three weeks from taking to the air, give or take. I'm honored to be able to watch this miracle of nature happening so close to my home. Thanks very much for your recent views, comments, and faves.

Fine photo...striking comparison. Young in the wild don't have much time to be dependent do they?

Nice avian amidst the branches capture. And, testimony to what a steady diet of grasshoppers can do for a fledgling kite, Maria.
