Description


The Belfast was a Royal Navy Light Cruiser that has been a Museum-ship since 1971.She is moored in the Thames River just upstream of the Tower Bridge. She was laid down in 1936, launched in 1938, and commissioned on 24 August 1939. She served during the Second World War and the Korean War. Belfast saw action escorting Arctic Convoys to the Soviet Union during 1943, and in December 1943 played an important role in the Battle of North Cape, assisting in the destruction of the German warship Scharnhorst. In June 1944 Belfast took part in Operation Overlord, supporting the Normandy landing. She also served with the British Pacific Fleet in the Far East. Sitting in The Pool Of London, right next to The Tower and Tower Bridge, could it look any better! Its owned and looked after by the Imperial War Museum, same people look after Duxford mate! I feel so bad the sun never shone.... :-( Sorry mate.. Rob
