Description

A portrait of G2F with Teen Josie, with all the various tricks and tips from my video title "Carrara - Realism Rendering" applied to skin, eyes, mouth etc together with lighting and render settings to create maximum return from the native Carrara render engine. I believe this is comparable in many ways with the output from Luxrender or Octane. Render time is around 30 mins on my laptop. I hope you like it - thanks for looking. Phil

Great portrait, all materials turned out spectacular. Yes i think the result is perfectly comparable to those made with unbiased engines...

Superb photo-realism! The face skin, eyelashes, eyebrows, the eyes, the teeth and the hair are all rendered masterfully. One little 'imperfection' though, if I may, is slightly too much shine (or hilite?) on the lower lip. This prevents the lip natural texture to be brought-out and make the image photo-perfect!

She's wearing lip gloss!

Fantastic scene and lighting. You are becoming the Carrara grand master (black belt in realism!). Congrats as well on the Rendo swimsuit contest -- nice piece of work!

"I believe this is comparable in many ways with the output from Luxrender or Octane" ----------------------- Looks very different to a Lux render to my eye. The unbiased renderers tend to much higher contrast. "Realism" is a misnomer, but the typical Lux output has a contrastiness that looks quite phographic; this render by contrast looks very "clamped" As an experiment, take this render, and do one in Lux . . . and then look at the histograms in Photoshop. I should say that I like the render, and Lux and its contrastiness, while more akin to a photograph, aren't necessarily what you want aesthetically . . .

Thanks for the feedback - I did something similar to what you suggested and the output from Carrara is actually very similar in tone and contrast to the unbiased render. Plus with unbiased renderers, you tend to have the ability to adjust brightness and contrast on the fly, as well as apply photographic film color profiles, which you would have to do in Photoshop for the Carrara equivalent.

This is really good coming from Carrara. I have used Carrara before and I really like how the eyes and teeth look in this render. Never seen them render this well.
