A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

Sometimes you have to "settle" for having seen something amazing. One time I was in the parking lot at work with a coworker, just standing around on break, and a bald eagle flew straight at us, about eight feet off the ground, carrying a seagull. Both of us photographers, neither of us with a camera. I'll never forget it, even without a photograph! You'll remember that bobcat (and probably the skunk) for many years to come! And I love this shot from the coast. Whatever postwork you did, the effect is nicely painterly. :)

I am trying to recall what I did with this photo, as it was a few months ago I got it "ready". I am thinking with this one all I did was and "unsharp mask". I may have played with the color, but I don't think so.

Joyful and beautiful.

And here we see a sleeping dragon draped over the hill. So you did get SOMETHING with your camera! Keep up the good work! :-)

Memories are tiny photographs anyway Melinda. I always tell myself that when I have no camera with me to record a specific event, you will remember those animals all your life, but try to remember all the pictures you have ever taken, it can't be done. And that's for rambling, I love a good ramble, it's a way of bringing people together socially, we learn to see the true side of people by the things they disclose to us via sites like this, so ramble away, I do :) Beautiful image here too, I do so enjoy sharing your vacations :)

My biggest DOH! moments are when there's something cool to shoot as I'm driving or stopped momentarily at a signal only to find that my camera gear--almost all of it--is in the back of my SUV, which would require stopping and going back there to get it, which wouldn't be possible with what I'm contemplating shooting. Oh well. I did once try to use my phone, but I don't know how to take pictures with it, really. I'd keep my camera in the front passenger seat but I don't want to tempt for a break-in, so it stays in back in a black pack behind heavily tinted windows. That said, this shot is fascinating; I grew up in Southern California on the beaches where the only vehicles were the lifeguard jeeps and the sand groomers. Then I lived in Virginia Beach, and discovered 4WD trucks driving on the sand to reach their beach homes...it seemed so wrong! So the trucks in this shot just jump out at me. I want to shout "Arrest them! They're causing beach erosion!" But no one hears, so it must be OK. A beautifully captured scene, and I love the tree-toupe on the bluff!
