Description

This was actually a darned interesting experiment. I opriginally did this as a magazine cover a few years ago. The magazine never got off the ground and recently, my publisher wanted to use this as a book cover. It's one of the few dragons I've ever done, but I could not let it go out as the original, as it did not represent my current skill level and style. I decided to redo it completely. But not by redoing it. I decided to retouch, retexture and redesign. All in photoshop. Close to a hundred layers. New objects to replace those I felt were second rate. New lighting style. The original was very monochromatic. I had to get more contrast and color, give it depth and make the proper things stand out. Retexture and recolor the dragon, the whole deal. I think it turned out rather nicely. Much better cover design now. And the humor I intended comes through more clearly. I may try this experiment again. It was fun, educational and interesting. The original can be seen here for comparison http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1941143&user_id=36379&np&np
