Description

Wow, 2 Dragonflies in a couple weeks for me! I love these guys but have a hard time finding them perched close enough at the wetlands to get shots of them. Last night on my walk I spotted this one and another I was able to capture with the 70-300 zoom. As I don't usually shoot them I discovered that I got the best results with an ap. of f/10 or so and manual focus. Thanks for looking and if you can help with ID? ZOOM for nice details. -Bruce

Amazing capture my friend. I typed in blue dragonflies on google and it seems that this fellow is a blue dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_dasher God bless.

Dasher! OK... I don't know my DF's well. I had Blue Darner stuck in my head, but your ID sounds better. Thanks buddy.

As a kid I always believed the myth they could sew your mouth shut... lol. So silly. But we all did believe it.

We don't have this species. I love the colour of the eyes. It is the same shape as our Darters. A superb photo!

I'd say a Blue Dasher. I love chasing dragonflies myself but haven't ween one with this coloured eyes before. Best time to catch them is early on a cool morning when they are slow and even better if they have dew one them as that really slows them down.
