Description

Several years ago, my sister and I were walking along Lake Tahoe. I spotted this young hawk on a post and he let me walk right up to him. Somehow, I'd changed my setting to B&W, but it actually worked pretty well here. This foto also got me a second place in the B&W category at the county fair!!

I love his (her?) expression! Such a gorgeous photo and black and white is the perfect choice too...you get to see the details of the feathers and I think that the black and white opens up more possibilities to explore the different textures and patterns. It's kinda like looking at bas relief etchings and stuff like that: it's all light and shadow and shape. That's the impression I get with this, and it's marvelous. Really good shootin'. And for some reason, the title of this pic made me think of Kojak...though this little person isn't saying "Who loves ya, baby?" the Kojak vibe seems to fit.

Fabulous foto of the fine feathered friend, Marilyn. I like the textured feathers, its curious expression, clarity and the back lighting. You should have taken first place.

Didn't I comment on this before? I was sure I did. (Maybe in email or on the phone.) Well it deserved a prize, it's a fine detailed black and white of a majestic bird. And the mass of its body (in back of its head) is impressive---you shot it to let us see just how corpulent this magnificent beast is. Fine work, Marilyn. And it was a ways ago...you were doing scintillating work all the way back then!
