Juliette, BugGuide.net identifies this as an Awl-Shaped Pygmy Grasshopper. At other sites, I've seen alternate names such as Slender Pygmy Grasshopper, Slender Pygmy Groundhopper, Granulated Grouse Grasshopper. Nice focus on the body and nice composition. Having the part of the leaf that this grasshopper is sitting on in focus gives the viewer a nice reference as to where it is (i.e., place). The downward diagonal slant of the leaf with the grasshopper on a horizontal plane on the leaf is really nice.
