I love these creatures. Great macro.

What blinkings said. I used to keep one as a pet. It was fun to watch her eat the leg of a grasshopper, holding it as if it were a drumstick. Beautiful intimate portrait!

my absolute favourite of all insects. long ago i had one who took up residency outside the window of my computer room. she showed up one day in June & she stayed there for months on end, and i've no idea if all the little babies that appeared one day on the balcony were hers or not, but boy were they a blast to play with. by late Novembre we had a snow, and she went missing, so i went looking for her, found her on the ground 2 stories down from my window. i thought her dead, so i scooped her up and brought her inside. a fair number of minutes passed and she slowly started stirring. i debated, weighed & measured things, and felt that it was a dishonour to interfere however desperately i wanted to, so i took her back outside to where she fell and set her back into the dusting of snow... strange story? p'raps, but p'raps i failed to say that i love insects [soft smile] i'd love to see what you'd do if you'd the opportunity to shoot an orchid mantid...

this story reminds me of when a bird flew into the window. I heard the awful thump and saw her laying in the snow. I couldn't help but pick her up with hands and carry her into the house. She was just stunned, seemed perfectly calm sitting on my hand and I brought her back to a window and opened it and off she flew. Nature and life is brutal and beautiful and while we are here, you must immerse yourself in it.
