Does one really lose? All of life is an improvisation and even if you win what we call the 'rat race' in the end you are still a rat. I love this series. Very creative and thought provoking.

This series was a wonderful visual development of a provocative theme. Five stars is too few for it. Great job!!!!

Very true. Just because you know how the trick works, doesn't get you out of it.

Superb serie of five ! Very, very interesting concept. ...if we do not play we lost...but if we do not play can we arbitrate with ethics ? What would not be a loss ?

A really clever idea. So nice to see a group of images containing no figures.

I think this would have been more powerful if for the LAST one in the series you had given each chair a mask in the seat and the "losing" chair...none with the chessboard tossed to the floor. Thats just MY surreal brain working overtime...either way I have loved the series. :)

Five chairs and six masks? I think that I have matched five of the masks to five of the chairs. The red lips mask is the odd one out!

A teacher once asked us if the Commedia dell'arte was theater, or if WE were the theater, and the Commedia dell'arte was actual reality: Ie, maybe the actors were more real than we were. We were all given replicas of the masks that the actors used in the Commedia dell'arte, and we were told: When you put that mask on, you are the person that masks represents: You can be no one else, ever---as long as that mask is on. In this image, the masks are all on the floor, so neatly and cleanly; yet they represent whole personalities, just waiting for someone to give them life. And you have grotesque masks alongside gentler ones. The game is clearly represented in the chess board (where the chess pieces appear to be made of glass, too---a nice chess set). And the left-most chair is facing away. In each piece of this series, a different chair "stands out" from the group. I love the hat over the 3d chair, and again your lighting and shade and the smooth sensual texture of both is wonderful. A thoughtful series, playful and serious, and pondering the meaning of life. (The 8th Century Old English writer, Bede, wrote something you may know, but it's worth repeating: People are all eating in a big castle. A bird flies into the castle, and looks around, then flies out, never to be seen again. Bede says that this is like life itself: We come from some unknown place, we fly into the castle, we see many splendrous sights, and then we fly out, never to be seen again...In this chair series, you bring life into a room, and everyone in the room tries to figure out why they're there, until at one point maybe everyone will leave...All very thoughtfully done. Really fine work.

I really like it how each chair has its turn in being different in some way. (You were thinking of a play by Pirandello, right?) :) Gray plush chair: Well? Which masks shall you fellas choose? Light brown wooden chair: I think there's a problem... We have no faces to put a mask on... :D
