Description
This alter is in a church in Sweden. The church was built in the 1200’s.
My wife and I spent June in Sweden, (her homeland), and were very impressed how the Swedes take care of their heritage and landmarks. A large portion of the homes people live in were built in the 1700’s and 1800’s. When they remodel and update a house they are very careful to leave the original structure intact.
We saw castles and forts built in the 800’s and 900’s. I would post some of those photos, but from the land they look like stone and grass hills. Have to shoot them from the sea to really see them. No time to rent a boat.
The Swedes don’t waste anything, I wish we were the same.

Thanks for the post and the comment. I live in south Sweden, grew up in the USA. Right you are. People have a sense of history and values that don't exist (in the same way) in the US, since the US is such a young country. What impresses me with Sweden (and a lot of Europe) is the history and the preservation of historical buildings and monuments. A lot of time and money has gone into archeological excavations and reconstruction of such old sites as Ekeby (on Öland) and Trelleborg (at Trelleborg, Skåne), both old ring forts from over 1000 years ago. Please do post more photos from your trip! :-)

Thank you so much T.Rex! My wife's family is mostly from Smaland and Vastergotland. My family is from Vasterbotten, (Umea). We plan to retire in Smaland, probably next summer. We are looking for a home in Gislaved or Anderstorp. Will post more photos, and thanks again.
