I would have preferred it as a simple sunset photo without all the cloning.

Actually there was no cloning. The birds were put in, but they were not cloned in any way. The boat was also put in. The sunset by itself was very unimpressive and boring...a good backdrop for something else to happen...which did when I added that "something else".

As it stands a breathtaking image! I do think the birds must have been added, as the light on them is wrong, maybe the boat too on second look.

You are correct! The birds I might agree with. They would most likely have been more of a silhouette with some rim lighting. However, the boat was in the same light, just not in a position to have the sun visible in the image as well. I deliberately left the sun out of the boat image so the camera would not be fooled by the brightness of the sun. I then brought in all elements to create the "perfect picture". If I were a professional photographer, I would be spending a lot more time on the water to get the perfect shot. As an amateur, I do not have that luxury. Thanks for commenting!
