Description

This is the image I wanted to post for Dana's birthday. It was shot in 1978. I had in mind to mention and thank him for all his wonderful uploads of scanned images from his past trips. I also wanted to see how this image would look using the oil paint filter in Photoshop. I started working on it, and my laptop froze. I tried again with no better luck, so I went into my files and found the image that I did post. I started writing about the evening when the Capture San Antonio Meetup Group got together to do some light painting . . . and my laptop froze. So I posted the image with a very, very short comment. I am now the proud owner of a new and much more cooperative laptop. For those who asked, the previous image was of a person walking along waving a light saber while we took long exposure captures. The camera stayed still. It was the light that moved. :) I have more pictures from that night which I will post at some point. This image was taken in the mountains near Yokota AFB in Japan (which is also not far from Tokyo.) It is from a slide. I dedicate it to Dana as I meant to do for his birthday. A very happy unbirthday to you, Dana! Your images both old and new are a joy and inspiration! I dedicate it also to all you wonderful people on Renderosity. Many thanks to you for your inspiring work, for your comments, and faves, and for viewing. I am sorry I have been so little here. I have been very busy with work and have had little time off or energy when I have had off. I have been looking at your galleries even if not commenting and my days have been enriched by your work!

Thank you Lucinda for such a spectacular un-birthday creation! Exquisite results from your oil paint filter and congratulations for the scanned 36 year old slide. WOW!!! Our summer has been tied up with a monster family situation. Good luck with you new laptop - if the results are like "Long Autumn Ago" it was worth it. Last but not least - you have been an inspiration to me for a very long time and I think there are many her on RR that think the same way as I do.

The backlighting and the brilliant colors make this a real stunner. And the oil painting filter has turned the leaves into fractals. This is a wonderful present for Dana and really makes me want to go back to Japan.

I did something different today Lucinda - I read your narrative and read all the comments before looking at your image. I couldn't wait to scroll back to find all that was said was completely true. This really is a beautiful image and your postwork is first class.

Congratulations Lucinda upon your new laptop. It is always great to take that quantum leap forward in speed and reliability from time to time. And, thanks for letting us in on your time exposure shot. The man with the 'light saber' must have been well practiced to have created such mathematically astute patterns. This one is definitely worth a zoom in. Autumn is my favourite time of the year precisely because of moments such as these - and the fact that the heat waves are all but over. Autumns are quite nice in Ontario and can linger as long as early December. I also like the scents of the season and your image really brings the fragrance of dried leaves and berry into sharp relief within my cranium. I can't wait to enjoy it in the real world - soon.

Oh yes, and the colder air in the upper atmosphere produces more ice crystals which which make the light in the sky in the late afternoon and early mornings more fantastic.
