Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Huntington Beach has water in a liquid state in winter? How weird is that? Oh wait, I'm from Chicago. Stuff's a bit different here. Anyway. Ooooh! I like this shot. I love the water sloshing in, and the sense of scale is great. The people look so small. This is a great shot, and I love the aerial-photograph feel this has: like you were hang-gliding when you took this. I love the light and color and the way there's this vague, not-quite-local feel to it, for me at least.

I love the light in this shot; I remember it looking like that sometimes, and it was always my favourite time, because it was so different than the usual. Beautifully captured!!

Btw, you're almost at 2600 uploads! Just thought I'd throw that into the equation. (I'm not even at 600!)......Anyway, this is a rich shot, bathed in that deep earthen red, and graced by golden (I assume) late day light. If it's not late day, it's very special light. It's golden and peach-hued. And the water moves from black to blue to white to peach-gold---it's very 'active'. The composition is very sweet, with those diagonals taking us back to the top...And the people are very small on this shore, giving the shore its due grandeur. As for the water-temps? This doesn't look like a cold shot, because of the warm late-day light; but I know well that warm-looking waters can be frigid; and I can picture those kids touching their toes to the water and running like hell. A little cold water on the feet at home is a bit of a shock: But when it's presented by a massive ocean? A whole other ballgame. A very poetic shot, Marilyn.
