Description

Greetings Folks, Back to WW2 now and while not in a realistic scheme, this shows the P-38's fork tail well.. Taking of at a Flying Legends on a sunny day.. It was due to appear this year but.. along with a good few, never showed.. No reason given, though I believe weather had something to do with that.. Anyway, this is a P-38L Lightning version (originally), its owned and flown by obviously, Red Bull, under their Hanger 7 banner.. Based in Germany again, they also own a Mitchell and DC6! Blenheim, which was due to début at the Duxford show, is now no longer listed! lol Figures, sorry guys, I'm going so... Wait... Soon the Vulcan will cancel.. We'll see huh? Enjoy this.. Rob

Awesome plane, awesome capture! It's kind of a shame they don't use an actual paint scheme, but since they're paying to keep it flying we can't complain too much!

Marvelous aircraft, I can even forgive the "nose art" this time.

Terrific profile shot of my favorite WWII fighter/interceptor, mate, but hard to believe that's a L series Lightning. In fact, it looks like the first P-38, all clean and aluminum shiny, ever built! Blimey! Where are the .50 calibre machine guns and 20mm cannon in the nose? And those tail markings are circa 1940. In any event, more testimony that most of the American WWII aircraft are stationed overseas.

I was going to say nice and crisp.....but it's very crisp, you've even caught the 'Red Bull' on the pilots helmet ! Brilliant catch mate...Like 'taliesin' I'd prefer a better paint job but as he says " since they're paying..."

What a cool pic of a real beauty! Yup, it's an "L" model, and I wish Red Bull would give it a GI paint job, too. They can keep their name on the nose, of course. The Gardner family owned the plane as "White Lightning", but after a wreck couldn't raise the cash to get the old girl back in shape. Red Bull bought it and did a great job to get her in the air again.

What a sweet shot of this Lightning, Rob! I've always thought the P-38 looked like a really exotic and fast sports car - it just has that look. Another of my fave airplanes!
