What a great capture of this Hover fly.. on the subject of Hogweeds we get them in this part of the country too... in previous years I would help clear the banks of the river umber of them to avoid choking up and flooding heading into the winter. wore long rubber gloves with arms covered and usually cut them down using an old sharpened kitchen knife (never to be used in the kitchen again I might add)... you must avoid getting the sap on the skin because it will sensitize on contact and you will suffer nasty burns from the sunlight... or just regular days. If you want to get rid of them there are strict rules to follow without going in there with shears flying... very dangerous with all that sap flying around the place.... disaster if it should get in the eyes.
