Description

It's been a while since I've done a dedi for Tara, but I've wanted to do one for months. She was one of the handful of people who helped me immeasurably from the beginning, who's given me great love and support, as an artist and as a friend, and whose art continues to inspire me and others every day. So at last, I post this long-delayed dedi... First, her art. Tara's become one of those members who help define RR. Her photography (here) won Gallery of the Month, and Gallery of the Year. If I had to describe her photography, I'd call it highly intimate, very lush, always embracing. I'd say she makes even sweeping shots---and shots of impersonal things, like wheels, walls, stairwells---seem like they were unfolding in your most intimate spaces. I'd use the word "dear". Close. Touching. Sweeping, yes, and monumental: But always very personal. She also has a highly abstract side---those famous "Tara excerpts," where she takes bits of planes, cars, etc, where you're not sure what they 'are', except that she transforms them into beautiful sculptures, presences, eloquent objects of art. And she does a host of architectural work too---I studied architecture, so I can say this with conviction: She communes with architecture as if it were made of pieces of her heart. She makes the monumental, intimate. It's an amazing transformation. There's her portraiture---spontaneous but always artistic and intimate---or her highly moving 2D/blends/montages---I've said that I wished she'd do more of these, as she does them with such inward conviction. And her writing---delicate, musical, fine-tuned and always insightful. And it goes on. She's also done a bunch of street-work recently, which has been a joy: She gets the 'moment'---that spontaneous burst so central to street work---but she never forgets the music---ie, her visual connections, interrelations, etc. They're always there, with Tara. It's part of her inner eye. Thank You, Tara. For supporting my work from the start. For helping me see that even my crazy Photoshop paintings were worth doing. For helping me define what I did here, as I tenuously re-entered art. For embracing my photography, from my very first images---which were no great shakes, believe me!---always finding the good in them, always helping me with technique, and always encouraging, encouraging, encouraging...You assured me that, despite my reticence returning to art, I belonged here. No way to sum that up---it was invaluable. As my friend, and as an artist, and for all your beautiful art, I say Thank you Tara. Deeply. As homage, my image is from 6 of yours, lol---you saw the originals months back, during that "6-Image-Blend-Craze" that hit about 4 of you, much to my shock! Unfortunately, I reworked this bugger a gazillion times, and couldn't get it near the 512KB limit! So it has half the images, is smaller, less sharp...but the thought's all there. (I added one of mine---a tree.) I made them into "glass globes"---those things you shake, and snow falls? They're Intimate and personal, like your work. I wish you many more years of amazing creativity and beauty, and I thank you deeply for all you've given me, as an artist and as a friend, and offer it all with great love and gratitude for everything you've done here,
to a great new journey ahead (you and Bill), Mark Please zoom: It's large!

Mark - I agree with everything you said about Tara & the same applies to you as well. You're both an inspiration for your art as well as the positive & encouraging words you always have for the members of this community. These icy images provide a welcome cooling effect as we have continued to experience temperatures from the mid 80's to the low 100's every day for the past month & a half...

Mark, you've nailed what so many of us feel about Tara; she's one of the first members I ever met from here, and while we haven't met up recently the times we did meet were like meeting up with a childhood friend. She is very comfortable, with herself and with others, and that's the basis for a really keen eye. Your homage is wonderful, I love the "snowglobe" effect with your tree as an anchor. Well done, my friend, well done!

First off, I'm not saying anything pro or con about Tara. Secondly, I like your rendering of the transparent globe and its contents, which to me signifies two separate dimensions of the same world, one consisting of matter and the other of antimatter, which, if my science acumen is up to date, would result in their mutual mass destruction, something you so expertly rendered in the last image. Thirdly, I really like your overwhelmingly backlit shot of the tree, as if a nuclear device had been detonated in the sky one peaceful morning. Lots of time, knowledge and effort went into this collage, my friend, and you are to be congratulated.

I meet her in person and she is cool person. very loving couple they was. Her work is what you say she is. You have a way of putting your figure on the purse of how it is real.

A wonderfully accurate description of a very supportive and generous person and a terrific artist. The complexity of these images leaves me rather breathless as I explore them!

Oh my. First of all, let me say that I saw this yesterday via my I-phone while we were out for the day, and haven't had a chance to comment until this morning. By the time we got home last night all I was up for was collapsing into bed. It was a great day, but there was no room in it for sitting with art, and especially not for taking in and enjoying your beautiful dedication! Your written dedication is beautiful, and fills me with joy. :) I feel honored and thrilled and happy to receive such praise. And in public! :) SO nice! :) You feed my soul, my friend, not only with this loving dedication, but with your presence in my life. Your artistic feedback, the conversations we have had about art, both specific and general, enlighten and enhance my work. Your friend Shroom-Magic3D said he sees my influence in your work, but that is certainly a two-way street. Your art informs my postwork choices more often than you might know, and it seems like I learn something new every time I see one of your pictures. One of the things I like about our friendship is the artistic give-and-take, the way we can talk about everything from broad strokes to technical nit-noys. It all filters through and becomes a part of the whole. Your words here today make my heart sing, and give me a moment, a space in time, to stop and appreciate how much our friendship means to me. Thank you, dear one. You are an irreplaceable part of my life. As for the art ... !!! Fabulous! I LOVE the colors you've chosen! The teals and whites (with little flashes of mustard and green!) against the dark background are like musical chords that march across the frames. I was pretty sure that music wasn't there before, and I checked, and ... no. Your snow globe and colors took one thing and transformed it into something else, and that something else has movement and sound and life. I love the way you incorporated that beautiful tree, the way the images dance together, inform each other. Whatever panels you dropped out, these four go together seamlessly. They speak to me not only of cooperative art, but of the threads we weave in friendship. The sum is so much more than its parts. Thank you, dear friend, from the bottom of my heart. Not only for your words and your art, but for your years of friendship and love. Much love and light and big hugs ...

Mark, this is without a doubt one of the most thoughtful dedications I've ever had the pleasure to view. Tara must indeed be a dear friend to warrant such an homage, and after reading the reactions it is clear she has made an impact on everyone around her. I've taken the time to read through her response twice and enjoyed her thoughts so very much. Each one of these images you worked on is inspiring and draws one in. The theme that seems to stand out here is one of light and hope, as each image shines in it's own right.

What a beautiful dedi for Tara!! She is all that you say, and even more. I'm honored to count among my best friends, god knows she deserves it after listening to me for hours on end complaining about whatever it is I was complaining about. She's also the one who got me to Chicago, called me one night and said, "Hey, You wanna go to Chicago?" What could I say, but "hell yes"! I've visited her in Seattle a couple of times and she and Bill stopped here in Fortuna for a couple of days either coming or going on their travels. So, yeah, she rocks and your images and foto are right on for her!!

Fabulous collage and birthday card, Mark. I really love the number 2 image, what a fantastic and beautiful tree. Splendid idea with the splicing of nature and architecture. This provides a very surreal expression. The fish-eye lens effects is a nice touch. A great birthday card for a great photographer.
