What a pretty window! I love when people put rich colours on their shutters and frames, and plant flowers to accent the colour. Santa Cruz is a wonderful and magical place, and I miss being able to hop in the car and drive on down for a lunch and beach walk! Beautiful capture!

I'm still back in September, but there were many pics I wanted to comment on when they went up. This hit me immediately. It has a Japanese feeling, in your composition, in the stark contrasts (yet gentle), in the lanterns making orange accents in all that dark (look at what the Japanese did with the sun or moon), in the strong textures around the window and then all that "smooth" space inside it, and the way the flowers not only cut into the wall, but feel almost like a print themselves, or a Japanese screen. Beautiful deep blues, the shadows are big saturated whites, and it's big and intuitive full size. Beautiful work, Claude: You do wonderful landscapes and their closeups, but you also have a way with facades. This is a prime example. Beautiful. (I don't know if you're bothered by few full views, but I figure if there's a traditional heaven---where we all go after life---some site-moderator's gonna stop people and say, "you didn't ZOOM!" And they'll send them back and make them zoom all the images they didn't zoom. No, that's not the reason I zoom all the time, but I like the fantasy. George Carlin said that when we die, we all go to a garage in Buffalo. I'd rather go here. It's a terrific shot. Very complex and yet simple at the same time. That sounds like mumbo-jumbo, but I really mean it---it's complex yet it has clarity and directness.)
