Description

I’m normally in the habit of mixing and matching posts, but as I’d posted a bush cricket nymph yesterday, I figured I probably should post the bush cricket adult that has been waiting for at least a year to see the light of day. And so, after a year, here’s a bush cricket. One of last year’s bush crickets. I’d bemoaned the absence of insects this year, and—indeed—the cicadas and bush crickets are a bit late. As of this writing, however, they’re out in full force. I’m over at Corey’s and the tree across the street is evidently the staging place for a massive cicada and bush cricket convention. Well…maybe not. I can hear at least 5 distinct cicadas, and three bush crickets attempting either to out-click each other, or attempting to attract a trio of female sorts of bush crickets. It’s hard to tell, since females also click: apparently the sound has a purpose aside from mating. The bush cricket in this image was cooperative, for the amount of time that it took to make this photo. This was the best of about 4 such photos, and immediately after it was taken, the model in question, decided to fly away. I have no idea where, other than in a generally southerly direction. I suspect, now, that at least one of the clicking, electric-castanet insects I’m hearing just might be one of the offspring of this little person. It’s a nice thought, no matter what reality may indicate. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

What a beauty it is! Much more leaf shaped than the previous one, so well spotted indeed.

What a terrific camouflage thing it's got going! So very leaf-like. If insects have emotions, I bet this one is quite smug. :P

Lovely shot of this handsome person; I'm always amazed how much their camouflage looks like the leaves they hide amongst. Nature is wonderful!
