Description

The full Harvest Moon will light up the night sky on Monday at 9:38 p.m. CDT, and this year it comes with an extra bounty. Tonight's full moon will cap a trio of back-to-back "supermoons" for the Northern Hemisphere summer, according to NASA. Monday's full moon is the one nearest to the September equinox this year, giving it the moniker of Harvest Moon by the usual definition. If you've got a clear sky, the supermoon will appear up to 14 percent larger and and 30 percent brighter than it usually does, according to Space.com. Handheld w/300mm lens. It was a fabulous moon. We watched it come up and followed its progress through the early part of the night. Ray was tempted to get up in the middle of the night and take his book outside to see if he could read by its light. Tempting but not enough to follow through. Marvelous photo of this spectacular moon.

Fantastic! We watched it rise, and it looked huge. I hadn't remembered it was one of the super moons. At midnight, it was so bright and even by 3am you could see your way around outside quite well, and it cast faint shadows.

Ohhhh I missed that viewing! :( I have a post-it on my calendar for the Oct. 8th Lunar Eclipse ... a 'blood moon' I think they called it....
