Description

Quaff down your favorite intoxicating beverage from any of these venerated vessels. Captured 4/27/14, at the marketplace of the beautiful Renaissance Faire, held at the beautiful Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, in semi beautiful Irwindale, California. I like the dude in the last photo holding that epic horn. A drinking horn is the horn of a bovid used as a drinking vessel. Drinking horns are known from Classical Antiquity especially the Balkans, and remained in use for ceremonial purposes throughout the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period in some parts of Europe, notably in Germanic Europe, and also in traditions of the Caucasus. Drinking horns remain an important accessory in the culture of ritual toasting in Georgia in particular, where they are known as khantsi. Drinking vessels made from glass, ceramics or metal styled in the shape of drinking horns are also known from antiquity, in Greek known as rhyton. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia. Ironically, although cool in looks, I didn't see anyone at the Faire actually drinking from one of these. Preferred instead were mugs, tankards, and plastic cups. ZOOM like never before. Cheers.

They do look really cool, but I'm not sure I like the thought of drinking from one; rather like drinking from a skull, which I know was also popular in many cultures. Still, a series of wonderfully executed shots that you should sell to the vendor for marketing purposes!

Super shots. I think two of these horns full of beer are enough to be drunk. Probably one spilled something while drinking. Cups and mugs are more practical.

These really do look cool and a very interesting trio of shots, Harry. While some of the horn interiors look fairly smooth, some appear to have a bit of roughness to them, which leaves lots of room for bacteria and whatever was originally in the horns. Without boiling first, I don't think I'd have the nerve to drink from one, either. But they sure fit the Renaissance theme. :)
