My wife's brother, who has been a bartender at the Peter McManus Cafe in NYC for many years, in action. The Peter McManus Cafe is one of the oldest family-owned & operated bars in NYC, having opened in 1936 (a few years after Prohibition ended). It has the look & feel of a classic bar of that era & quite a few movies & TV series have filmed there, including Highlander, Radio Days, Keeping the Faith, Seinfeld, Law & Order and Saturday Night Live...

I lived in NYC for a time, and I had a drink here ONCE whilst visiting Chelsea. I would highly recommend it from the one time I went!!!!!!!!

Just look at all that glass! All those pretty liquids! The light! Man. This is outstanding. I love it! And as long as he's pouring, I'll cheat a little and have a Glenfiddich 15 on the rocks, if you don't mind. :)

Zooming brings out so much. First, I've talked to some big bar bartenders (big in reputation and devoted fans) and I know that bartending has transformed in recent years. So many mixes, so much personal creativity, a whole new world. And bartenders make their own unique signatures. Your shot has not only antiqued this scene a bit (fitting for the subject, since drinks have a very old history), but you've 'grained' and given it shimmer. It has texture and light inside. The cabinet below has a deep yellow-green glow, like there's something fissile down there. (Well, alcohol can be seen as 'fissile', I guess. Native Americans did call it "fire water".) It's like a big atomic chest under the cash register. And man, that's a whale of a cash register! Don't let your brother in law get rid of that thing! Lovely work on the upper cabinetry and wall moldings, and even in the car window outside. I like the dissolving light in back too, and I assume that his pose would be archetypal for anyone who mixes drinks. I no longer drink and never drank heavily; but I appreciate the depth of history behind it; the endless discovery of a new-old drink; and how vast the possibilities are for mixing...The shot feels cloistered and intimate, and you've treated it to make it glow. Fine work Claude.
