Description

These lovely plants which I grow every year from seed given to me by kaward, Kevin, produce the poison Ricin used most famously to murder the Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov in 1978. 0.2 milligram was enough to kill him in four days. So there should be ample in my garden and those of my neighbours and friends and Bournemouth Council to reek world havoc if we were of the right mind! This excellent red-leaved variety is called Carmencita and is available from most seed companies. If you are interested or too young to remember the incident there is an article Here

I found shots of this in the 2009 rescue images. I remember the Markov incident well because between 1975 and 1982, I worked at Bush house where his office was at the BBC, I never worked for the BBC, I was working for the Magistrates court services, and the offices were at Bush house.

Theodor Geisel would have loved these. And check out the date Markov was assassinated on.

They are lovely! I wouldn't advertise that you have these, you might find them pinched some morning by some nefarious types!

My first thought was of throwback hairstyles from the 1960s. I remember the Markov case. A classic James Bondian murder.

Looking like a medieval weapon that is quite a cluster! An eye catching plant and shot! They must be the best value pack of seeds I ever bought. They have kept me going for years saving my own plants seeds, I've given a few away too!

Looks like the inspiration for some Dr. Seuss artwork! But after reading the other comments, I'm totally afraid of it now.

I remember that incident only because the MythBusters were asked to look into the method used in this assassination - Myth Confirmed as I recall Beautiful plant
