Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Ah...but it's only unpleasant for the host. As for what this actually is, I have no clue...an adult fly and a baby...something.... Wonderful photos...Nature is so pragmatic...it's all about resource exchange/exploitation, especially when it's not pretty.

A stunning find and capture. Looks like someone annoyed someone else and got his ass kicked. The stance of the winner seems very confrontational as if to say, "You want to be next?" I can't tell what that spherical shape is. Is it an egg sack or is the poor thing leaking?

cool captures Andrea the insect version of 'Alien'? so what insect would be Ripley?

fantastic !! very well seen and captured; it happens a lot in the late summer ( i have some bug-shots that are used by wasps to lay their eggs in the shield)

So I am guessing that the fly will feed the egg/larvae as it develops? A unique shot of the workings of mother nature...well seen and taken!

Nice shots I think it's a parasitic fly laying an egg on the host.

WOW!!! I think that you witnessed an egg being laid on the host body and the newly hatched larvae will consume it's host! Very impressive photos and montage!
