Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

What a delightful shot! You have got some wonderful shots despite the setting hiccup! The Rhododendron issue is such a cost and time consuming problem around us. One reserve dug out over 200 of them. It caused hundreds of complaints as people like to see them flower en mass. Not realising they are so bad for our biodiversity as a non native and very invasive shrub. Just a year after the ripping out the woods looked marvellous with so many wild flowers appearing!

I love the sculptural nature of these tree's and the dappled sunlight highlighting the bases of those in the foreground. Quality Shot, sometimes small can be beautiful... although this could probably be enlarged with the right software if you wanted a larger format without loss of detail.

Nearly symmetrical and such a lovely shade of green. Too bad about the Rhododendron. They are quite prized here in Southern California.

Looks like a beautiful place to take a walk. I agree with "wysiwig" - rhododendron are rare here in the South and it's a shame they are a nuisance there.

And the rhodies are native here, and are everywhere. This shot is stunning, I love the little pockets of sunlight.

Our native rhododendrons are tall and leggy, an understory plant. They're pink, and quite beautiful! They don't take over, since they're native ... they just do their thing as they were meant to do. Most of the rhodies here are cultivars. They do very well, but don't spread on their own. Amazing, to live in a place where they're so happy but they don't take over. :) Sorry to hear yours are pests! This is a glorious bit of wood, just right for an afternoon of wandering around and looking!
