Description
A telephoto shot of a lighthouse atop a hill, captured 6/21/11, from a marina on beautiful Queensway Bay, adjacent to the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California.
A ZOOM is necessary if for nothing else but to adequately view the miniscule people.
It's called Parker's Lighthouse on the map, but on further research I found that to be a squat posh restaurant not too far from this slender beauty. I don't know, maybe the restaurant was named after the lighthouse. And, if my back wasn't killing me at the time, I would have walked around the bay and trekked up the hill for a series of dramatic photos of this structure. Incidentally, shown are the smokestacks of the legendary Queen Mary liner to the far right of the photo.
Ciao.

They are not "smokestacks", they are funnels!
goodoleboy
Wrong! Besides being funnels they are also smokestacks.

What a beautiful shot of this pristine white beauty, Harry; a search yielded some information on this site: http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=338. Interesting history and read. Apparently this is one of two faux lighthouses at this harbour, as the actual real lighthouse is deemed "California's ugliest lighthouse. The three-story, monolithic structure was built of concrete and rests on a base of six columns. The lighthouse was designed to withstand earthquakes and seismic tidal waves." This one is "the Lions Lighthouse for Sight, which was made possible largely through funds raised by the local Lions Club." The other faux lighthouse is the Parker's Lighthouse Restaurant.

Beautiful shot of this famous place, Harry. The trees and people perfectly give a sense of scale to this impressive lighthouse and how cool that the Queen Mary is right there too. Very nicely captured.

Another lovely shot mate, nothing at all wrong with this.. Shall not comment on The Queen Mary, while glad its preserved and all, it sums up the U.K.'s habit of selling off or scrapping everything thats great about here.. I do HOPE your Country does not start down this road.. Well taken mate Rob
