Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

I had to go to zoom view to see the arrow. And right on the path, too.... hope the hornets don't take unsuspecting strollers by surprise!

Super in zoom. Give that a wide berth!!!

Who would have thought a tree could be so dangerous :)

They need a eviction notice so that unsuspecting children and adults alike don't get a big bite. Looks like a beautiful place to visit. Thanks for sharing Andrea.

those are the worse kind - no barbs on the stingers and they are like a machine gun when they start stinging

Great capture

I was confused by so many sweet chestnut trees in front of the scary hole! A beautiful woodland walk though I bet?

What a gorgeous shot! Your hornets over there seem a bit more ambitious than the ones I am familiar with: in the Midwestern USA, hornets are content to just hang their nests from a rather nicely-protected branch, but its always easy to spot them: just look for the thing that looks like an ancient clay pot with a hole in the bottom. I like the "stealth nest" better, though I'd also need to know where it is just so that I don't unintentionally start an interspecies incident by violating the Neutral Zone: hornets are protective of their neutral zones, you know. What a fabulous photo! This looks like such a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy all of that wonderful Nature-stuff that we don't get enough of in Chicago. And hornets too! I'm not interested in testing whether or not I'm on their no-sting list, but I have to say that I find them quite fascinating in that "ooh-look-a-pretty-insect" sort of way.

A beautiful place to walk without the danger of hornets attacking you. Had to zoom to see the purple arrow!
