Description

Captured 10/4/14, early morning, not too far from my abode. There's nothing like looking at, or in close proximity to, the sun through a washed out LCD monitor of a point-and-shoot camera, seeing basically little but your own reflection. Hence, I really had fun postworking this. Actually, the general scene at the time was much more balanced in color and light, but our star overwhelmed the sensor in the camera, giving the pic a stark contrast. Don't try this at home. Auf wiedersehen.

There does seem to be an overwhelming sense of impending something, Harry; the sun looks so big here, as if it's expanding suddenly. That could be a problem, no doubt! Really superb capture, and excellent postwork!

Very unique and interesting view. Would make a great background for someone doing some sort of sinister alien invasion/sci-fi render.

I'm a big fan of light interacting with the camera, but I know it takes skill and patience to do it well. (Otherwise, you get a big flare; and its appeal is over in a second...) A very dramatic blast of a shot, with a fine crop because the sun-blast is balanced by a thinning out of clouds and light, on the left. And that long contrail couldn't have been better timed if it tried: You sought the perfect moment, and you got it---the contrail follows the line of the diminishing clouds and road perfectly. The light on the road is bleached, mysterious; and the dark trees mixed with the empty road make this feel like a post-apocalyptic world, empty, eerie, bleached of life. The sun looks like a white, faceless enemy. And its early morning bloat is wonderful. I've done a lot of sun shots, so I know the challenge they present; and this is a wonderful looming capture of that big hot beast. I assume you could only get such desolation at this hour: You captured it wonderfully.
