I want to get to at least one or two of your 'celestial' pieces, so I'm skipping...I just want you to know that I know I'm skipping, but I'll come back for more the next time... I wanted to comment on this to talk about your large-swath spaces, spaces that are filled with countless flowers or plants or lights (etc), where a mane, a headdress, or a backdrop is a solid flow of flowers, leaves, or whatever they may be. It strikes me as a real challenge, because if one has more than that swath to convey in the piece, the swath can take over everything. Well, here, the goddess's face pulls us 'to' her even with that flower effulgence spreading-out behind her. And the two unicorns ground the piece too, even though the unicorns seem filled with star dust and light. (Amazing how your 'grounds' have celestial elements in them---elements from the sky!) The flowers whoosh-out and fill the space in maybe 1/3 of the image---a bold choice! And your alternation---in the flowers---between deep purples and lighter purples, and between purples and whites, and punctuating them with blue flowers and with what looks like hair-strands or strands of silk, all give real life and variegation to that huge swath, that celestial headdress. The butterflies are like beautiful ornaments. And the whole flower-mass resolves into the manes of the unicorns---more silken hair!---and their heavens-filled bodies (it's as if they glowed from inside). And your upper left side is a smooth silky expanse with pastel violets, blues etc. I think it's a beautiful place of rest, against all that activity beneath and to the side of it. The woman's face is studded with stardust; and her lips are painted in the blueish violet tone found throughout the piece...It feels to me like a beautiful late-day-light wintery image, even though there may not be snow, per se; but it feels like that special warmth one gets from cold environs radiating deep hues---like holiday lights against the backdrop of snow and ice. Shimmering work. And this headdress is beautifully done, intermingled in her hair flowing in space. Magical work, Carol.
