Description

Podarcis muralis . A juvenile. It was about 4"/10cms long. Adults reach 12-18cms and it takes 2 years for a male and 3 for a female to reach maturity. They are not native to the UK. There are many of these sunning themselves and hunting on the cliff on a sunny day. It wasn't scared of Tizzy..amazing! I suppose if you are born next to a busy zigzag cliff path people are just part of the landscape. It is thought that introduced colonies, particularly this one in Bournemouth, may have already had a detrimental effect on the native lizard populations.

I love lizards anyway but as you say it must be detrimental to our own species.

Superb shot! Great detail, with it balancing 2 grains of sand on it's head. It could win Britain's got talent! I'd have never seen one in the UK. I didn't know we had an invasion of them either.

So many animals here now that are not native. I wonder what the attraction is? Possibly introduced for pest control?

Ah now that will teach me to read all the text, I see they were introduced, I bet there was a monetary agenda behind it.

Interesting - a lizard with a snakes head! We have so many invasive plants and animals down here - I can't keep track of which are indigenous!
