Description

A stairway that leads from our deck to a lower level of garden, taken near sunset. I didn't build this, but I find it visually interesting, though not the most ergonomic design. As you walk down, you sort of have to zig zag your body back & forth...

I can see the visual interest, which is probably why it was built that way. I can imagine that it might be more difficult than expected to traverse it. I found that out about spiral staircases when I moved into a house that had one, the designers never really thought about how it would work if you were carrying something, like say a basket of laundry! This makes a lovely capture, though.

I know that spot, and I'm quite sure Bill will remember it even more vividly than I do! As I recall, he and Arlene worked out there for quite a while one day. I'm with you ... the visual is compelling, but I'll stay up here, thanks. :P LOVE the gold!

Awesome capture, but would hate to have to walk down it, but does have a cool visual effect.

well i said I'd be back in the morning, but believe it or not our internet is STILL out from when a vandal (in our high rise) cut the wires---I've been on a 4G for weeks, and it's S-LOOOOOOOW. Anyway, I had to be here all day while the repair people came in and out of my unit. I hope to have our original internet back by the mid 2020's. BUT! They techies are gone, and this is the first thing I'm doing in their wake! This feels like a big descent into a deep cavern. I know it's stairs, but your deep reds and crimsons and the increasing shadow (as we go down the shot), make this a deep descent. Love how you get such musical power out of the most everyday object. Love the composition too---framed atop by that flat surface (wall maybe?), the rocks and growths on the left, and the pots on the right. It's in our face, in the middle of things, almost flat like a big overgrown tapestry; and it's very rich in reds and golden yellows. I have to tell you, most people who'd work with colors the way you do would either get blown out shots or straight digital paintings. How you do all you do and get true photography is sheer magic. A marvelous descent, rich with forms and deep hues, and bathed in a sense of fiery late day light. Also, it reminds me a bit of Italian food! Put out some basil, oregano, and some wine, one could EAT this thing! Beautiful, with fire. (Allegro con brio!)

I love the design and photo! Interesting that you have to zig zag your body to descend but it could keep you in better shape if you go up own often enough!
