Description

M42 is considered one of the most beautiful objects in the sky with swirling plumes of gas and without doubt this is a show you'll never get tired of admiring. M42 is a bright nebula visible to the naked eye in a perfectly dark sky that form a blurred spot in the center of the sword of Orion. Offering one of the most impressive performances ever, this bright, irregular cloud unveil its wealth of details as and when you increase the aperture of the instrument. The shape of M42 is already recognizable with binoculars: there are a bright center and, under a good sky, low carbonated extensions. A window of 60 or 80 mm allows a magnification of 40 times, to discover the central region (called "Huygens"), slightly greenish and roughly trapezoidal. In addition, the four Trapezium stars are resolved. Less contrast, the two extensions of the nebula shaped "wings" are growing in excess of 100 mm aperture instruments. The eastern extension is well defined and looks like a machete. Two other Trapezium stars become visible in low turbulence. A telescope of more than 200 mm suggests the frothy appearance of the central region.
