Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

CavalierLady

spacechimp
HE does not look amused.Great picture!!!

Or perhaps he's masquerading as Dumbledore. Either way, a cute picture and a very patient canine.

Awesome on it's own, looks like a purple bird. Ralphie doesn't appear too impressed wearing it, even if it matches his collar.

Great shot, even though Halloween is meaningless to me.

Ralph looks cute in the witches hat, could be another fancy sorting hat. :-)
MrsRatbag
I think his mouth makes him look quite witchy. Or maybe that's twitchy? Anyway, it suits him, although I'm sure he ripped it off quite as quickly as he could manage it!

What a great hat! Ralph doesn't look all that impressed, but hey ... you never know. He could secretly be enjoying the heck out of it! :)

Poor Ralph - he is a great model and a good sport to let you take this photo.

Andrea, I'm back only for 1 comment on my core artists (a small core, in which you have a permanent seat), but I'll be back for a real session very soon. (Not that it's even interesting, but selling my father's small condo, settling a drug-user's trespass on several tenants, working with a broken internet connection for several weeks just took me away from RR. Though selling property is a gas, man! And maybe I'll get some art out of it. At least some funny stories. There's gotta be a category called "law art". It's insane.) But I've seen EVERYTHING here, everything you post, every day, without fail---including your flickr versions! I have all these unwritten comments inside me, and I promise to start writing some of them soon. But I pick this piece today because it's a delight, part of your sharp, subtle humor, and part of your series of dog shots which I adore. LOTS of other pics call out, but for right now I'll say hello through this. Ralph looks like Bette Davis saying "what a dump!" Or like Marlene Dietrich having been awakened, and not amused. He truly isn't the theatrical type, but his mixed, growly, very tired, and very burdened look could make for a great character in a play. The lace coming over his forehead is terrific (you plan that? I mean, Ralph didn't put on the hat himself, right? he didn't go to your closet when you were out and say, "I think I'll try this on---guys, is it me? I can take it, is it me?") He's all scrunched up like that's what he wants to do---rest, not model this freaking hat. The hat, however, gives a great splash of intense blue-purple to an otherwise yellowish-beige shot, with blacks and whites on bottom and light-reddish flowers above. Love the shot. He's even got a tooth showing, like he's reminding you he could get really peeved if you keep the hat on him much longer. I love it. (I'm trying to think of a dog joke, but can't come up with one. All I can think of is an ancient 'duck' joke. This is old. A guy goes to a doctor with a duck on his head. The doctor says, "what's the problem?" The duck says, "I can't get this GUY off my ass!" Ba-da-boom. I'll do better next time...)
