Very cool capture of the tank here, Richard. I'd like to have the opportunity to see the inside of one some day.

What you have there is a 2S3 Soviet-built 152 mm self-propelled howitzer, or an artillery piece on tracks. Looks like a tank, but isn't, as its main gun is supposed to fire explosive shells many miles away in a parabolic ballistic arc at distant targets, such targets having their locations called back to the howitzer from a distant observer, whereas a tank has way more armor, speed, and fires a cannon in a direct line (line of sight) to a more near target. like another tank. Howitzers and mortars shoot in an arc, and cannons shoot in a flat trajectory. This item entered the Soviet arsenal in the 1960s and its functional brothers are probably still killing folks in Ukraine and Iraq and Syria today. The particular model you are looking at, located at an Army reserve facility, was in Iraqi service under Saddam Hussein and brought back as a war memorial/unit trophy from either the Gulf War I of 1991, or, much less likely, Gulf War II of 2003. The neatness of the grass and the facility and the fresh paint on the 2S3 speak well of the management of this particular Army Reserve facility, those things are at the low end of the Army funding totem pole and the Army is at the low end of the US military funding totem pole, so the people running this facility are making the most of what little they have, I'd say.

152.4 mm to be precise ;-) Yes, because the last time someone wasn't precise about the weapons of mass destruction (A misunderstanding about apple juice), led to us to the Desert Storm...from where this tank seems to be a trophy, following CleonXXI's comment. As long as there will be "Roman Empires" to be reborn under any she-wolf's udders, you can take such photos like these, Richard lol I used to prefer pipups women but I'm always not sure there are less dangerous...

Quite the 'Beasty', I wonder if the Russians remember they sold 500 of these to Ukraine.....then again in 2007 the Russian army listed 931 in active service with a further 1600 in storage.....but how many I wonder are still serviceable today ?.

If nothing else, it would tend to discourage those irritating tailgaters. Probably doesn't get very good gas mileage, though.... :-P Great shot of this Soviet artillery piece, Richard!
